Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-10-17

These are the rules for using PixelDrop. We've tried to keep them readable. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them, so please read them once.

1. Who we are and what this covers

PixelDrop (“the service”, “we”, “us”) is operated by PixelDrop, based in Canada (“the operator”). These terms are an agreement between you and the operator about your use of the PixelDrop website, its apps, the PixelDrop browser extension, and the PixelDrop Backup desktop program. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information and forms part of these terms.

2. Your account

3. The service

PixelDrop helps you organise, look at, share and back up files that live in your own Pixeldrain account. Pixeldrain is a separate file-hosting service with its own plans, limits and terms, which also apply to your files there. PixelDrop has no storage of its own: to upload anything you connect your Pixeldrain account (its API key) in Settings. Other providers help with email, payments and similar functions (see the Privacy Policy). We may improve, change or remove features, and we may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or because of problems outside our control. The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without a promise of uninterrupted or error-free operation.

You can also let other apps act on your PixelDrop with limited rights that you approve one by one (for example an email program saving messages into your files). Each app has its own terms, and you can remove its access at any time in Settings → Connected apps.

Websites and apps can also offer a “Save to PixelDrop” button, ask you to choose a file from your PixelDrop, or receive a file you send to them. You always confirm each of these yourself, and they need Membre. What a website or app does with a file or link you give it is up to that website or app and its own terms, not ours: PixelDrop gives it only the result of a save, or a short-lived download link, never your key or access to your account.

If you build an app. You may register an app and use the Save to PixelDrop button, which is currently in beta: it may change or stop without notice. Give your real app name and a site you control, don't pretend to be someone else, and don't use the button, the registration or a receiving address to send people spam, malware or anything unlawful. Keep your signing secret private. We may refuse, suspend or remove an app or its “Verified” badge at any time. The badge only means that we checked that the site belongs to the person who registered it: it is not an endorsement or a security audit. To check a site, and to deliver a file someone sends to your app, our server makes requests to the addresses you registered (https only).

4. Storage, plans and payments

5. Your content, and what you may not do

Your files stay yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store your files, keep them available, and deliver them to the people you choose to share them with.

You are responsible for what you upload and share. You must not use PixelDrop to:

We may remove content, disable share links and suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the law, and we may pass information to the authorities when the law requires or allows it. We aim to warn you first when that is reasonable, but we don't have to when there is a risk to others or to the service.

6. Share links

Anyone who has a share link can download that file, with or without an account. Sharing by link is a Membre feature: if Membre ends, your links are paused (not deleted) and open again when you are a Membre again. Sharing a link is your choice and your responsibility: share only with people you trust and delete the file if you no longer want it available. TimeVault backups can never be shared.

7. TimeVault and your recovery key

TimeVault backups are encrypted on your own computer with a key that only you hold. We cannot recover your recovery key or read your backups. If you lose the key and no connected computer still has it, the backups can't be opened by anyone. That's a deliberate privacy feature, and it means you are responsible for keeping your recovery key safe. The “Lost your recovery key?” option deletes the encrypted backups so you can start again.

8. Availability, backups and data loss

We work to keep your files safe, but no storage is perfect. Your files sit in your Pixeldrain account, which we don't control: Pixeldrain may remove files that haven't been viewed for a long time (currently 60 days on a free account). We try to prevent that — for example by opening your files from time to time, and by showing a ⏳ badge and emailing you before it happens — but we can't promise it. If Pixeldrain refuses or removes your key, PixelDrop can no longer reach your files until you reconnect. Keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.

9. Ending your use

You may stop using PixelDrop at any time and delete your account yourself in Settings, or ask us to (see the Support page). We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used to harm others or the service, or has been inactive for a long time (we'll try to warn you first). When an account is closed, we delete our records of it and the files stored through PixelDrop, including from your Pixeldrain account.

10. No warranty and limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows: (a) we give no warranty about the service beyond what these terms say, including about fitness for a particular purpose or that files will never be lost; and (b) neither the operator nor anyone working on PixelDrop is liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data, or for more than the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer-protection or other laws that can't be waived, or liability that can't be limited by law.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date above and, for important changes, tell you by email or in the service. If you keep using PixelDrop after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms; if you don't agree, you can close your account.

12. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Québec, Canada, and disputes belong to the courts there, except where the law of your country gives you the right to go elsewhere. Questions about these terms: [email protected].
